Youtube: SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP - An Addon may be the fault
I recently installed the Firefox Addon: " Google search link fix 1.5.3 " from Wladimir Palant. It doesn't require a restart. But after a Flashplugin FF Crash due to having open too many Youtube Tabs, Youtube no longer works.
I get this error code: SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP
I already uninstalled that Plugin but it still doesn't work. My guess is this addon must have messed up some configurations.
I already tried googling for solutions, but none have worked so far.
Thanks for reading

I don't see a reason for that extension to affect YouTube.
Do you use any other YouTube-related extensions, whether to control the use of HTML5 vs. Flash, or to intercept/save/download video streams?
You can check your Firefox settings to make sure you are allowing enough ciphers:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste TLS and pause while the list is filtered
(3) If you have any non-default settings (typically bolded and having a status of "user set"), you can make a note of the values in case they turn out to be important for some other reason, then right-click > Reset each prefer to its default value.
(4) In the search box above the list, type or paste security.ss and pause while the list is filtered
(3) If you have any non-default settings (typically bolded and having a status of "user set"), you can make a note of the values in case they turn out to be important for some other reason, then right-click > Reset each prefer to its default value.
It's okay to leave these set to false (this works around any servers that have not yet been fixed for the Logjam vulnerability):
- security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha => false
- security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha => false
Anything strange among those?
Thanks so much for taking your time and giving me such an indepth answer, much appreciated, jscher2000!
I thought this Addon could have messed up the configuration because it was the only thing that I have changed since Firefox gives me this error message when i'm trying to get on youtube.com
On Internet Explorer Youtube.com works as it should.
Anyway my installed Addons are: Adblock Plus Adblock Plus Popup-Addon Ad.Fly Skipper *WORKING* Ageless Disable Anti-Adblock Disable WebRTC RefControl
I tried to disable them all but it still doesn't work.
I also tried out two Translation addons, but uninstalled both.
The security.ss and TLS strings seem to be default values. I set
security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha & security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha
to false.
I also tried this: http://www.ryananddebi.com/2014/12/10/bypassing-the-ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap-error-in-firefox-34/
I probably have to reset my profile
I also doubt it I have malware, I ran Malwarebytes Antimalware & Avast Browser Cleanup.
Firefox no longer has a level "0" for TLS; that would have been SSLv3 and it has been completely removed. Not that YouTube uses it.
Do you use Avast's web filter? You might try disabling its filtering of HTTPS connections to see whether that makes any difference. Please see this article: How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites.
Can you think of any other intermediaries that might be involved? Any external "video catchers"?
