After unsuccessfull compacting of Sent folder, Sent file doubled in size
Tried to compact Sent folder (12Gb), process started fine and after some time got a message "not enough space" and process aborted. Didn't notice anything wrong until a day later when system warned me that i have 0 Mb free on HDD. When checkd what happened, I discovered that Sent file almost doubled in size (23 Gb)! Any explanation what happened, and how to roll back.

Is this an imap account?
Yes it is.
Part of this does not surprise me - the error checking on a disk full or near full. But what precisely got you to this state is an open question.
Visit your Thunderbird profile https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb and find the sent folder in Windows explorer. Close THunderbird. If you have enough disk space to keep the 23GB file, move both Sent and Sent.msf to some location outside of the folder. Restart Thunderbird.
Your Sent folder should be rebuilt from the imap server. Please post your results
It worked like a charm! Thanks.
The size of Sent file is only 5.8 Gb now.
Now when I think of it, I have tried in the past to compact Sent folder several times, but due to free space limitation it had newer been successfull. Seems like attempts left a lot of "garbage".
Thanks once again.
