New Tab page techniques
Hello. I was wondering which ways are available to open a new tab page. F.e. the "New Tab Tools" addon opens a new tab without a custom url in the address bar. On Google Chrome, "Metro new tab" works perfectly the same way but on Firefox (where i want to use it) it just "links" to a HTML page. It takes sometimes more than two seconds to load this new tab page, while Google Chrome opens it immideatly. Can this be configured some way around? It's about this addon: https://addons.mhttps://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop/customize/form?search=Get+metrotab+to+work+better&step=aaq-question#ozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/new-metrotab/

If it is building that page from scratch when you request it, that certainly could account for the delay.
Recent reviews are not promising, and the author doesn't appear to have responded and doesn't appear to offer any support link.
Some changes in Firefox 48 and later allow certain Chrome extensions to run in Firefox, and compatibility is expected to keep improving. So there is a future for the Chrome version of this add-on if the author wants to test that out and switch Firefox users over. But until then... you probably need to use something else.
So there is a possibility that the Chrome extension can be "ported" to Firefox? Or do you know any other Firefox addon that has about the same functionality? Nice looking customizable speed dial, with customizable background, tile icons and such things?

More every day.

I've seen screen shots of various of them, but haven't tried any of them myself. Maybe another volunteer has recommendations.
