I can't load local SWF files, and all other swf files have no sound
I was able to load local swf files by changing the plugins.http_https_only preference value from true to false, however these files also refuse to play sound. All SWF files were working last week, and I have installed no new software outside of a firefox update and flash is also up to date. Is there an additional setting I need to turn off or disable to get audio back in SWF files?

Does Firefox receive audio from the plugin? If so, you should see a speaker icon on the tab (the mute button). If not, is there any volume control on the media itself? Obviously the "stand-alone" Flash player may not be as full-featured as websites that draw their own control bars.
You might also check the Windows Volume Mixer. Right-click the speaker icon down in the notification area (taskbar system tray) and choose Open Volume Mixer. You may find separate sliders for Firefox and Flash.

This is because the file:// protocol is disabled for plugins.
You can set this pref to false on the about:config page.
- plugins.http_https_only = false
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
