smtp.talktalk.net ESMTP server not available

Sounds like a server problem. Talk to your email provider.

Thanks christ1. Reply from TalkTalk, my ISP, is to make changes to Account Settings. However, I cannot make changes as when opening Account Settings and selecting Server Settings I get the message "An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name." Hence I cannot change settings. Please advise on problem.

I am experiencing the same issue when a message fails DURING sending, regardless of cause. I can see on my mail server log a failure (due to too many repeated SSL renegotiation requests coming from Thunderbird; a separate issue) and the mail server terminates the connection without completing the message send. Thunderbird pops up an error saying that the message was not sent successfully, but then moves the message from the Out box into the Sent folder, as if it WAS sent successfully - even though it was not, and it Thunderbird actually showed an error message at the time saying that it was not sent.
