I changed my password on facebook and firefox didn't ask to update, when I checked my saved logins it was already changed by facebook. Is facebook supposed to be able to do that?

I don't know what happened, so I have no suggestions. Checking for an infection probably won't hurt. Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

I did that and then I stumbled on an article about auto fill on the security page of firefox. I had that checked. I unchecked it, problem solved.

Websites cannot update Firefox's password manager, but if Firefox observes you using an updated login on a site it may ask if you want to update the saved login. I don't remember if there is a way that could happen automatically, or whether Firefox always asks you.

I've had that drop down box asking if I want to save the new password. That didn't happen. I told facebook to leave me logged in. Then I logged out expecting the drop down box when I entered the new pass word, but the drop down from firefox didn't come. So I went to my security on firefox and the new password was already in my list of saved logins. Facebook made me choose between staying logged in or checking other devices, which I don't have.

No help? Should I run a virus check or anything. Or refresh Firefox?

Sorry, could you clarify which setting you changed? On the Options page, under Privacy & Security, the first two checkboxes are:

  • Remember logins and passwords for websites
  • Autofill addresses

Did changing the setting for Autofill affect how Firefox saves logins?

I changed the Autofill addresses. It was checked and I unchecked it.

Did that make sense?

  • Remember logins and passwords for websites. I left that one checked
  • Autofill addresses. I unchecked that one.

No it did not effect how firefox saves except for the fact that facebook was unable to save to firefox on it's own. Now a drop down box shows and asks me if I want to update the password. On the only new site I registered for, the drop box came down to ask me to save as normal as well.

I understand what you did, but I don't understand the connection. Login fields shouldn't be part of an address. ?????

I found it on a firefox security page. It had something to do with the new Firefox features and what autofill did.
