I do not want to spend hours trying to fix it. I tried not having the multi whatever the jargon system and I havent undone it but the same thing happened only i'd have one of the windows ramping up and others just chewing moderate ram- no reduction in resource use. Maybe the problem is that it wants to keep downloading new versions, but when I upgrade within days it wants to upgrade again and never uses less RAM new or old version.

Hi, no information came from your system regarding add-ons, video card drivers. fyi only : Add-ons take aprox 20megs each to run, and Corrupt video card drivers can cause excessive use of fans.

Fyi : current version of Firefox is 59.0.3 and is showing you are using 58.

Please go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a check mark) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser. Then : Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

You maybe better off moving to the Extended Release Version with such a low amount of ram available to you. 52.7.4 ESR. It will continue to get security updates until June 2018, and you can download and install it from this page:

Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after June 2018.

You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because:

The way forward : Firefox 52.9.0esr out on June 26 (same time as 60.1.0esr) will be the last major update for Firefox 52 ESR apart from any 52.9.x esr updates for security or allowed stability fixes.

Quantum based : Firefox 60.2.0esr will be out Aug 21 and Firefox 52 ESR will be EOL then. So people will have to upgrade to 60.2.0esr to keep getting security updates if they have not manually upgraded to 60.x.o ESR already. Firefox 60 ESR will require Windows 7, 8, 10.

Major Security Issue please use this : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html to uninstall Flash 22.0 r0 as it is so old. Re-install with Flash Player Version: 29.0.0.140 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
