Why does the new mail icon vanish in about 10 seconds before I read my mail?

Thunderbird 60.0, Windows 7. I'm used to the new mail icon remaining visible until I read my mail. Now, it vanishes in seconds. If I walk away from the computer, I rely on the icon to let me know that new mail arrived. Have I missed a setting? It always worked on my old Windows XP machine and I thought that I had the exact same settings.

I don't have my W7 computer on to give you the exact instructions, but I think you have to open Control Panel and check the settings for the Notification Area so that the TB icon is 'always on'.

Windows Control Panel? Never saw a setting there and in the TB settings it is marked to show a tray icon. It still vanishes.

It took a bit of digging, but I think I found a setting in the Windows Control Panel. Now, I need some new mail to be sure. Thanx!
