Firefox Uses Way Too Much CPU On a Decent Computer, No Addons Enabled, Help?
I have an i5 with a geforce 1060 and 8gb of ram. Whenever I use Firefox it really thrashes my CPU. Uses 40-50% and the CPU fan goes crazy. This is with and without addons and on all sorts of different websites. Using recommended settings and then tried disabling all but one core and using no hardware acceleration. Still the same problem.
Virus scanners come back negative. Playing games and using other browsers like Chrome do not cause the same problem it's only when using Firefox.
It's all updated too, latest Firefox version.

How was your firefox update or installed?
I did the update through Firefox where it automatically downloads it.
To be fair it has had this problem for several updates now and I keep it updated in the hope that they fix whatever is wrong with it.
Go back to default settings, then enter about:performance in the url bar and see, what's eating your CPU.
Yeah it seems to be using a lot on pages with animated advertisements and that sort of thing. Right now it says it is using 50-60 resources on a Daily Mail page. However it is using very little ram.
You should install this addon.
