How can I back up my saved games that are stored in Local Storage?

more options

Hi. I intend to refresh my Firefox profile but there is one thing I cannot afford to lose: I've been playing a web game for a while now and it saves its state in the Local Storage. I've even been able to peek into it using the Developers Tool. But I need to back up this info and restore it once the profile is reset. There are dozens of keys with a hierarchical values for each. (I am guessing arrays or hashed lists.)

Is it possible?

Chosen solution

Some DOM storage pieces are in the webappsstore.sqlite file. It's a bit difficult to search due to the reversed host names.

I would recommend to check with their FAQ game saves.

You can do a test and create a new profile with the Profile Manager and copy the content of this specific storage folder to the new profile once this folder has been created again to see if that picks up this data. I don't know if it is possible to backup this data otherwise.

As a footnote to the above, the data is most likely under:

[profile folder]\storage\default\website

It does not seem to be. For test, I created three pieces of data for this page in Local Storage: "Test", "Test 2" and "Test 3". Then I deleted this folder that you mentioned. But those test data are still there.

See the attachment. Of course, the web game's storage has a great deal more keys containing my character names, their traits and a lot of embarrassing details I won't be posting here. The web game adds cryptographic hash to the data, so they cannot be changed.

Found them. They were in the webappsstore.sqlite file. Copying this file over to a new profile creates the saved games. I used DB Browser to modify this file as was necessary.

Thanks
