Thunderbird hangs *after* sending message when VPN active - why?
Nord VPN lets me receive e-mails just fine, but since most recent updates of the VPN and/or Thunderbird I'm having this problem again. With VPN active, open Thunderbird. Incoming messages download just fine. Send first message, *then* Thunderbird hangs, and I have to force quit. This is Thunderbird 60.9.0 (64-bit) running on a mac under OS10.12.6, and using port 587 for SMTP. Thank you for your help, ---tad.

A hang is not a crash. have you left Thunderbird for an extended period of time 30 minutes to see if it actually does crash? Diagnosing a hang is almost impossible as it becomes a question of what action is Thunderbird waiting to complete. Something there is little access to. I would guess there is an issue with the VPN cutting of the send before it actually completes. You might learn more by logging the connection that sends the mail. https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging
Thank you for this. I'll give that a try (waiting, logging, etc.) but will leave this open for now in case anyone else has any suggestions. ---tad.
Sorry, I forgot to add, on another mac in the house (OS10.14.6), Thunderbird (60.9.0) does NOT have this problem sending mail while the VPN is active. Doesn't this militate against the VPN cutting off sending? Same VPN, same local network accessing the internet, just a slight diference in platform. ---tad.
Maybe. I need to try the mail logging. Reason I think this suggestion isn't the problem is that this behavior is not consistent. ---tad.
Does it happen with version 68? https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/
Updating to version 68.4.1 solved the problem for me (win7 64 bit, PIA VPN connected to server in Denmark)
