On my wife's log-in to our shared PC TB doesn't check for new emails periodically anymore. Clicking on the "get messages" button works fine and messages come through. And messages seem to come through at start ( or at least there are new messages then that haven't been manually called.) But TB isn't checking for new emails until told to. It works fine on my log-in to same PC It's set to check for new messages every 5 minutes and automatically to download new messages. it's not doing one of those things (impossible to know which.)

What are your providers access conditions? I have not looked recently, but Hotmail always refused a connection if you checked more frequently than 15 minutes. It was in their term of use.

Is the account IMAP or POP? how they work is different enough that for many IMAP accounts new mail does not have to be checked for at all.

I'm using Thunderbird with several accounts. On two different log-ins on this PC It, Thunderbird, is not checking the accounts according to schedule for emails for one user. There is no problem with the other user. There is no problem manually checking for new emails. It has worked fine for many years. It's as basic as that.

As I said, It works fine on my log-in to same PC It's set to check for new messages every 5 minutes and automatically to download new messages. it's not doing one of those things (impossible to know which.)
