Moving downloaded messages when offline
Hi,
Is there a way to copy or move saved messages to a local folder while offline?
I have an IMAP account setup to download all messages for offline access.
I wanted to copy or move some downloaded messages to a local folder while offline but this wasnt possible without being prompted to login. (I have it set to enter my password manually when I want to go online).
Is there a way around it?
Thanks for your time and any info.

Hi A few basics to check. Are you sure a) the downloaded for offline messages are downloading the whole message, not just headers? Test you can open the whole thing while offline. b) you are putting them in a folder that is located in TB "local folders", not a folder that may be synced with the IMAP server.
Hi,
Thanks for replying.
Yes I'm definitely choosing a local folder destination.
Ive checked the account is set so that all the messages are downloaded. However many of them contain graphics which are blocked by the security settings. I think it may be the graphics which is triggering the prompt to log on.
The problem is that the downloaded messages are not moving or copying without being logged in.
This is a problem for me as I accidently deleted a group messages while using webmail. If I log in via TB those downloaded messages will be lost once it does a sync. I need to find a way to move or copy those messages to a local folder before I login.
Thanks for your time.

Hi Maybe try Save Message as - to save to a .eml file outside Thunderbird. Not sure of that will work either, but if it does you should be able to re-import them after sync.
Hi
Thanks for your quick reply.
What Ive discovered is that TB seems to stall.
Whether I try to move or copy messages from an IMAP folder to a local folder or import a saved eml file to a local folder using drag and drop nothing happens.
However if I close TB, reopen it and then do any of the above as the firat activity it works!
It only seems to work for a while before it stalls again.
Have you come across this stalled behaviour before and if so know of a fix?
Thanks again for your time.

Hi No, I haven't experienced that but I also haven't used TB for long periods while not connected. Try turn off automatic attempts to Check for new messages every X minutes, if that's still on. I imagine that with IMAP settings TB will try to update the server when messages are moved/removed. I hoped saving them outside (not re-importing them yet) would let you rescue those messages, then reconnect and let things catch up. Depending how your IMAP is set up - can you disable sync for specific folders? Right click folder, I think. More about that here under Configuring synchronization and disk space usage. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization I would Save As all the ones I wanted out of TB first just to be safe... but if you are successful in unsyncing the folder they are in and then connecting, you might be able to move them without freezing. Sorry I can't test any of this for you - Agnes
