Hello: I attempted to login to NYU Langone Medical Ctr. Patient Portal. The login was rejected. I eventually used my cell phone and got through. Spoke with tech support at NYU and was told that it's probably an issue with Firefox. Can this be corrected? Thank you.

Hi, joyzcho

Fix login issues on websites that require a username and password

  1. Enable cookies for the website.
  2. Clear history for that site.
  3. Clear all cookies and the cache.
  4. Check add-ons.
  5. Security application is blocking cookies.
  6. Remove corrupt cookies file.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a blueish highlighted shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Tracking Protection is blocking content. You can click shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection. You can check in the Web Console what content is blocked.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Hello: Thank you for the reply and suggestions. I tried what you sent me. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with all Cookies and the Cache. I'm set up to have Cookies automatically removed...could that be the problem? I recently changed my security app to AVG. Might there be an issue with their software? To contradict all this, today, I had another issue with playing a video that was sent to me as an attachment. If I open with GoogleChrome...I am able to get thru to both the NYULangone Patient Portal and see the video. So...herein lies the issue...one browser works the other doesn't. Anything else going on here that maybe forcing me to use GoogleChrome or any other browser? I would think that if there is an AVG issue, it will be blocking any browser I try to use...yes/no? Security Application has to apply to both browser...yes/no? Still stuck...TY Joyce
