You have launched an older version of Thunderbird
Hello,
My Windows 7 PC died and I switched to Ubuntu and am wondering how to get my emails working in Thunderbird. I've copied my files over, updated profiles.ini and installs.ini appropriately, yet I'm getting the "You have launched an older version of Thunderbird" error. It goes on to say, "A newer version of Thunderbird may have made changes to your profile which are no longer compatible with this older version...". I have the newest version (68.8.0). How can I utilize the beta version? I don't see a way to install it (if you do, please give detailed instructions) This page is not helpful, but apparently is supposed to solve this issue: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/unable-launch-older-version-profile What should I do? I have spent WAY too much time on this issue and may dump my Ubuntu idea altogether if I can't get this resolved soon.
Please advise, and thanks in advance!

The W7 TB was probably 68.9, so you would see the error when running 68.8 on the W7 profile. Start Profile Manager from the command line with the added --allow-downgrade switch and select the relevant profile. You might have to delete the pkcs11.txt file from the profile folder so the stored passwords and logins are read.
