The new version of Thunderbird uses a less intuitive addressing mechanism I do not like. Can I change version 78 to use the old style addressing during email composition? Or should I uninstall, and install an older version? Thanks

It is not exactly advisable to go back to using an older version just because you are not familiar with the new method. Security improvement is more important. And believe me, it's not that simple to just reinstall an older version. Since version 68, there has been a dedicated profile per installation. In version 78*, all the address book .mab files had the format converted to sqlite files, so that would need fixing as well. you would have to sort a few things first and then start thunderbird from the command line using a specifc command to allow a downgrade on that profile. But if you really want to do this I can provide all the info. However, I ask that you read the information at the link provided and work with it for a bit longer first.

The new method obviously seems awkward, well it did feel unnatural for me at first because it effected what is called muscle memory. You automatically do addressing in a specific way because you have done it for so long it just comes naturally without really thinking about it.

The new method was designed to use less clicks so reducing the likelihood of repetitive stress disorder. It also needed to have a serious fix for those needing to create mailing lists using text files.

So, as I help out on the forum, I had to get to grips with it. I tested to see whether it really did use less clicks and it did. So I was really happy to discover that worked out in my favour.

I found the information at the following link really useful and now, having used it for a while, I've discovered it really is a lot easier, but then most things in life are like that. Always easier when you know how and practise makes perfect.

Please hang in there and give this article a read as it really is helpful. People have taken the time to put it together to help us.

Thanks for the extended reply. I read the article, but honestly it's a deal breaker. My opinion is it's a poor judgement call implementation. I've been programming and using computers for 35 years. ..and have seen change after change...so it's tough to walk away from a great email client over this... but will check back in a few versions and see how things shape up.

My solution is to just click the CC button above the addressing bar prior to addressing for the old method. I can live with that

And I disabled the auto update feature. We have a lot of people using Thunderbird. Features like this should be configurable. I face enough flack for pushing Thunderbird over Outlook, this stuff doesn't help. Just my two cents people.

We decided to bail on Thunderbird. The new addressing has created too many issues. My suggestion is the # of clicks argument doesn't outweigh the "things belong on separate lines" argument. I will be watching. Hoping an addressing preferences option will come about. Best
