I can not bookmark since the last damned ff update!!
Almost every time ff updates, which seems to be almost every two weeks, things I have carefully arranged in my menus, etc; get messed up and I have to spend days fixing things. I am an information researcher and now can not bookmark anything!!! The bookmark icon, the little star at the top of page, is still there, BUT IT NO LONGER HAS THE "BOOKMARK THIS PAGE" option. It has only the 'show bookmarks' option and some other stuff. So how do I bookmark pages???!!! Please stop with the useless constant poorly thought thru 'updates'.

You can find items like the Bookmark Star in the drop-down list that opens if you click the "Page actions" button (3-dot icon at the right end of the location/address bar). You can right-click an item in the 3-dot "Page actions" drop-down list to add its button to the Address Bar for easy access.
Sorry, already tried that several times. I have the star icon, it just does not give the option to make a bookmark. I went back to ff 82something as I am losing job time. But it lost all menu options so now try to get that configured. FF needs to stop with the useless updates that are not well thought out. Wish I could sue for work missed!!!
Note that the star I'm talking about is within the location bar. You can add a Bookmarks Menu button (star on a tray) to the Navigation Toolbar that behaves like you describe, so do not confuse the two star buttons.
Do you otherwise have problems with bookmarks ?
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
