I'm just going round and round in circles here, I click 'Get help', it links to all product forums, I get to the Tbird forum but there is NOTHING on there to click to ask a question, only to answer questions, so I've had to come here to ask...

My install of Tbird updated. Now it is not removing junk mail.

All the settings are correct; it SHOULD be moving the junk mail to the junk folder. It IS recognizing junk as junk, but my only option is to mark as "not junk". It IS junk, so that doesn't help.

I've tried, repeatedly, clicking "run filters on folder" but the junk is still sitting there. It's NOT marked as junk, unless you open it and then it has the 'not junk' option.

Normal non-junk mail is normal.

Is there any way of reverting back to an earlier version that works? I should add I have had this problem with Tbird before and it's sort of, somehow, sometimes, fixed itself, sort of thing. I'd like to take action and fix this, now.

What to do?

Under tools-accounts-junk settings it says to move all junk mail to junk folder. It IS set for that, it just doesn't actually do so.

Chosen solution

Update - it is now working again.

Perhaps more interesting, I see there is a (new?) option under the menu to "Run junk mail controls on folder".

Running controls or filters on the folder I have seen and used before, but I don't recall seeing a specific command for junk mails? Running that command did work, and now it seems to be back to doing it automatically again.

I didn't change anything else but it's decided to work, so that's nice.

Well i still don't see anywhere I can ask for help on the Tbird forum?? So I'm back here... For some reason I'm now finding when I try to open Thunderbird I'm getting this:

XML Parsing Error: error in processing external entity reference Location: chrome://messenger/content/messenger.xhtml Line Number 44, Column 1: %brandDTD; ^

I do have Chrome installed, though I never use it.

Tried using system restore, twice, for 3 and then 6 days ago. Neither worked. Those are the only restore points I have.

I tried redownloading Thunderbird to reinstall but it warns that it does NOT use my previous settings - which is a nightmare! I have no idea what the settings were, as I never change them.

'(

It is possible to force the newest version to use my older settings? I'm not willing to install it if it will overwrite the original.

Or any ideas how to fix the "parsing error", whatever that is?

Thanks
