Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar.
How many profiles are listed?
How many should be there?
Also, open the profile folder in your file explorer.
what are the 3 url's listed for?

@mike
What operating system are you using?
I will guess Windows. I will help you open the folder on your machine where the firefox profile files live.
Click and hold the flag key then tap and release the letter R. I cannot provide screenshots as I do not myself use any microsoft products.
A box will open.
In the field enter:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox
A folder opens
Is there a folder labeled Profiles inside that?
If no: your adventure stops here
If yes: open it
Is there a folder with some random characters?
If no: bummer
If yes: click it. Then right click. then click on COPY. Click your desktop. Right click. Click PASTE
do that step. dont skip it. You will need this to revert with your data.
so I'll pause here.
For other systems find path information on mozillazine
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Oh my they have updated the directions finally to use %APPDATA%
there are 5 folders
i clicked on
byy1dejv.default-1601468339120 the date is 1/1/2021 at 7:49am
there are other folders and the last on is empty
mofbgkd8.default-1609508467078 is a new profile that got created during the past day due to using the refresh feature in Firefox, so you can check the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop for you old profile data.
You can copy certain files with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to transfer or recover personal data. Note that best is to avoid copying a full profile folder.
- bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
- favicons: favicons.sqlite
- bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
- cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
- formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
- logins.json (encrypted logins;32+) and key4.db (decryption key;58+) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
key3.db support ended in 73+; to use key3.db in 58-72, make sure to remove key4.db - cert9.db (58+) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
- persdict.dat for words added to the spell checker dictionary
- permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
- sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
those instructions are way above my technical ability. i am afraid i will do something incorrect and lose everything permanently
is there a way i can print my passwords, bookmarks etc just in case?
In Firefox 84 you can export the logins (passwords) as a CSV file in Lockwise (about:logins).
You can create an HTML backup of the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
thanks one more question i am to replace the new files from the old firefox from the desktop one file at a time correct?
Logins are an exception and you need to move both logins.json and key4.db as the former stores the logins and key4.db stores the encryption key, so both files need to match. Other files like I posted above aren't depending on each other, so there shouldn't be problems. Be cautious with restoring files and folders that I didn't mention.
i didn't do anything with this last night and shut the computer down now this morning i don't have the information i had last night. how do i get it back
i got it
