Attempting to find some HELP period is next to impossible using this setup as you have it set. Finally found what was said to be a "SOLUTION" and it did NOT work for my setup, NO HELP at all! I also posted a possible work around for the additional issues with that one problem with the "Other Bookmaks" as it will NOT allow me to DELETE that folder. On top of this issue, every now and then that "Other Bookmarks" duplicates itself and I have had eighteen or more copies of that folder, if any one of those extra copies is removed they are all removed including the one copy that cannot be removed is "STRIPPED" of any saved bookmarks within that folder.

I recommended that anyone with this issue to create a special bookmark folder to save any bookmarks within that "Other Bookmarks" folder before removing any of the copies and save your bookmarks from that "Other Bookmarks" folder. Now I cannot find my original posting to see if there are any updates. When doing what you call a search for FIREFOX only still comes up with over 2K entries and cannot take the time to review them all. This system is a NIGHTMARE to use to find anything. Removing the Other Bookmarks "container" from the Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox 84

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste toolbars and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 preference to switch the value from true to false

** This change will take effect in new windows (Ctrl+N) immediately. Existing windows will remain unchanged (until you restore them at the next Firefox startup). **

Your Places database, the file that stores your bookmarks and history, may be corrupted and on the verge of failing. I suggest:

(1) Make an extra backup (.json)

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

(2) Make an export (.html)

Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks

(3) Run the "Verify Integrity" (database maintenance) function -- that's here:

Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.

If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:

> Task: checkIntegrity
+ The places.sqlite database is sane
+ The favicons.sqlite database is sane

Hope that helps.

Are you using Sync to sync bookmarks or have the iCloud Bookmarks extension as that can cause the bookmarks (places.sqlite) to get corrupted ?
