Looks like I missed the link in my response... sorry about that. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/protect-your-thunderbird-passwords-master-password#w_removing-your-master-password-if-the-master-password-has-been-forgotten

Not that I have linked directly to the password forgotten part. It will mean the passwords will have to be re entered if you use it, but it is a certain way to clear the entry if entering a blank master password is not working for you.

If you close Thunderbird after you see the image below and restart then all passwords should be gone... baring there being issues outside Thunderbird that are affecting things.

Did you follow this procedure? If yes, then the master password is gone. There are two methods described in the link. One simply replaces the existing password with a blank, the other deletes everything because you do not have the master password to reset it.

perhaps you could post a screen capture of the dialog, as once removed the password is removed, so I assume we are talking about something other than a master password now.

Thank you so much for trying to help me- BTW I am 72 yo so I am not very good at comprehending complex procedures. I tried several procedures including deleting T-Bird & re-installing it; trying to reset it and trying to delete it.

this is what keeps appearing as soon as I try to open T-bird

This is the Principal Password box that works fine (when I enter my P-word
