I have been trying to download send emails in Thunderbird from the Verizon AOL.com servers. When I try to download emails, I get a message that says:

Sending of password for user dhanig2@verizon.net did not succeed. Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later.

I have checked my server settings, and they appear correct: pop.verizon.net at port 995 smtp.verizon.net at port 465

I can use my browser to see my emails, and I can use the AOL app on my iPhone, so I know I am still using the correct password. I have deleted and reinstalled Thunderbird, but the problem with Thunderbird persists.

What do I need to do to solve this problem?

You need to create an app password and use it in place of the account password in TB. Remove the passwords from Saved Passwords in Preferences, restart TB, enter the app password when asked for a password, check the box to store it in Preferences.

Thank you for the solution. I followed the instructions and it worked fine. Turns out I had to go through the same process a few years ago but forgot all about it. :)
