Can receive but cannot send emails
Over the last 6 months or so, failures to send email were occurring sporadically with Thunderbird for my wife's account with Comcast. Hitting the retry button on the popup or clicking the x button would at times result in sending the email. Presently, this does not work, nor does the option of entering the password when the prompt occurs during attempted sends.
Current version of TB is 115.2.2 (64-bit). SMTP port is 465, normal password and SSL/TLS and protocol is POP.
With mailnews.smtp.loglevel set to All, the console repots the following:

I have other email accounts that work correctly with comcast as POP and Imap in my accounts on several Windows 11 computers. My wife's account otherwise works correctly with Comcast's email tool accessed through a browser. In the log file above, "username" is substituted for the actual user name.
Please interpret what is happening and advise what actions might be appropriate to resolve the problem sending email with Thunderbird.

Pop account: Can you propvide information on how this account is set up. It just seems a bit odd that email is using Drafts in Local Folders account.
Is this set up as a proper POP account which uses it's own set of folders OR Is this account set up as a deferred account which uses Global Inbox (Local Folders) meaning the pop account does not use it's own folders, it is using 'Local folders' mail account folders ?
What is selected here?
- 'Account Settings' > 'Server Settings' for pop account
- Click on 'Advanced' button
- Is this selected : 'Inbox for this account'
- OR is this selected : 'Inbox for different account - Global Inbox (Local Folders) ?
- In Account Settings window
- In left pane - scroll to the bottom and click on 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)'
Do not use the accounts 'outgoing server SMTP - Edit SMTP_Server' button' - please do it via method I stated.
It will list all smtp outgoing servers on the right. Is there only one smtp server listed ? I'm assuming your wife only has one pop mail account, so there should only be one outgoing server smtp in list - but is that correct ? Select the correct smtp in list It should say the following, so if anything is different then click on 'Edit'
- DEscription : email address of account - same as user name below.
- Server name: smtp.comcast.net
- Port: 587
- Connection Security : STARTTLS
- Authentication Method: Normal Password
- User name : full email address.
Then check the account really is using the correct smtp:
- Account Settings > select account name in left pane
- Look bottom right for Outgoing server (SMTP)
- It should display what you put in the 'DEscription' field - aka the full email address of account
- if it does not or you need to double check - click on the drop down icon and select correct smtp server from list.
DO NOT click on the 'Edit SMTP_Server' button You must be certain the correct one has already been selected.
Comcast is xfinity - I presume you know about the need to enable/allow Third party apps, but this is a link to info just in case anyone reading this does not know:

Passwords stored in Thunderbird Are both incoming and outgoing passwords stored and are both passwords correct?
- Settings > Privacy & Security
- Scroll to Passwords section
- click on 'Saved Passwords'
- click on 'Show Passwords'
- You should have two lines for the mail account:
- mailbox://pop account name....
- smtp://pop account name...
- Both should be using identical passwords - same password you use to logon to the webmail account.
- Right click on each line in turn and selet 'Edit Password'
- Completely clear the contents and retype the correct password.
- Click on 'Close'
This is set up as a POP account. The local folders were originally set up for storage of selected messages locally on the computer. At this, moment, they may essentially be empty, as I created a new instance of the account on my laptop, after removing the prior existing historical instance, to see if the latest version of TB would install anew and correct the send problem.
Server Type: POP mail server
'Inbox for this account' is selected under Advanced Account Settings
Ougoing Server - there is only one smtp server listed, as my wife has just one POP account.
Description : <not specified> Server name: smtp.comcast.net Port: 465 Connection Security : SSL/TLS Authentication Method: Normal Password User name : username@comcast.net
[Note: prior attempt to use port 587 had resulted in time out. Port 465 appears in Comcast articles concerning port settings.]
Third party app is enabled in Xfinity account.
Both passwords are stored in Thunderbird and are correct. I edited them as directed and replaced them both with the correct password.
With the suggested settings, the same behavior with popups occurred. There was no timeout on Port 587. Here is the log:

Hi Toad Hall,
I reviewed the settings on my personal Pop accounts and saw the following for the outgoing server:
Description: username@comcast.net Server Name: smtp.comcast.net Port: 587 User Name: username@comcast.net Authentication method: Normal password Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Therefore, I changed the settings for my wife's account to match the above.
Here follows the log from the console:
mailnews.smtp: Sending message <a2911d8a-eff1-4754-b473-69766e790ee4@comcast.net> SmtpService.jsm:88:18 mailnews.smtp: Connecting to smtp://smtp.comcast.net:587 SmtpClient.jsm:123:19 mailnews.smtp: Connected SmtpClient.jsm:387:17 mailnews.smtp: error { target: TCPSocket, isTrusted: true, name: "NetworkInterruptError", message: "Network", errorCode: 2152398919, srcElement: TCPSocket, currentTarget: TCPSocket, eventPhase: 2, bubbles: false, cancelable: false, … } SmtpClient.jsm:434:17 mailnews.smtp: Socket closed. You have SSL/TLS security on port 587, when it should be STARTTLS on 587, or SSL/TLS on 465.
https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email
Please only use:
- DEscription : email address of account - same as user name below.
- Server name: smtp.comcast.net
- Port: 587
- Connection Security : STARTTLS
- Authentication Method: Normal Password
- User name : full email address.
This sounds odd:
originalMsgURI=mailbox-message://nobody@Local%20Folders/Drafts-username%40comcast.net#1
I would expect: originalMsgURI=mailbox-message://username@comcast.net/Drafts#1
You say it is set up as Pop account.
