I recently refreshed Firefox and now I am having trouble streaming some news channels from my TV provider. The message I get is "FIREFOX IS INSTALLING COMPONENTS NEEDED TO PLAY THE AUDIO OR VIDEO ON THIS PAGE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER."

I went to my Settings under DRM and found some articles on how to watch DRM content. I dug a little deeper and went to Manage Your Plugins and noticed two Enabled Plugins - OpenH264 Video Codec and Widevine Content Decryption Module provide by Google.

Under the Widevine plugin, there is a message highighted in yellow that reads - Widevine Content Decryption Module will be installed shortly.

It's been like this for 2 days and I don't know what to do next.

Make sure you the latest Widevine version (4.10.2710).

  • Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins

You can toggle DRM off/on to see if that makes Firefox (re)load DRM components.

Thanks, I already did all of that and it did not help. I decided to reset Useragent and that did not help either. Is useragent supposed to be true or false?

Widevine is downloaded from "redirector . gvt1 . com", see if you can access it directly. It may be blocked by firewall, hosts file, DNS, VPN, etc. NextDNS has blocked it in the past.

What user agent pref on about:config are you talking about as normally you do not spoof the user agent ?

I believe I have resolved the problem. I use a vpn, so I disabled it and toggled the DRM. This seems to have allowed the components to install and I am now able to stream/view the channels.

BTW, resetting the useragent is one of the suggestions in the link you provided.

Reset the user agent

Resetting the user agent may also solve the issue. See How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

Thanks everyone for you input!

The user agent is usually changed via general.useragent.override and in that case you can click the trashcan at the far right to reset this pref. Do you have this general.useragent.override or another useragent that is bold (user set) or were you otherwise able to find what caused the addition ?
