My wife & I have separate profiles for TB & FF on one machine. I had to restore her FF from back-up. The desired profile is selected for opening in the "Firefox-Choose User Profile" dialog by checking "Use the selected profile without asking at startup". But when her FF is opened, the "Firefox-Choose User Profile" dialog continues to appear.

How can I re-establish opening her FF without the "Choose User Profile" dialog appearing?

Wayne: Any ideas for this one? The correct profile is selected in profile manager and "Use the selected profile without asking at startup" is checked. But the profile manager still appears whe opening her Firefos.

Make sure the desktop shortcut is not using the -P command line parameter which will always show the profile manager.

You can create a desktop shortcut that explicitly launches a specific profile with the same parameter:

firefox.exe -P <profile_name>

The current target is the shortcut is this: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p Bridgett12.23.23 This opens the profile manager displaying the 2 profiles to choose from. Checking "Use the selected profile without asking at startup" still opens the profile manager with the 2 profiles for selection.

If I replace the target with Firefox.exe -p Bridgett12.23.23 I get the error message in the attached image.

You my have to add quotes around the profile name assuming that you have a profile listed in the profile manager with the Bridgett12.23.23 name as this is about the name listed there and not the file on the hard drive.

  • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p "Bridgett12.23.23"

Can you post the content of your profiles.ini (Windows may hide the .ini file extension) ?

I added the quotes in profile manager "Bridgett12.23.23" but profile manager still opens from the shortcut.

Contents of profiles.ini as follows:

[Install308046B0AF4A39CB] Default=Profiles/bqwrl72n.Bridgett12.26.23 Locked=1

[Profile1] Name=Bridgett12.26.23 IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/bqwrl72n.Bridgett12.26.23

[Profile0] Name=Bob062122 IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/4ouzl9ny.Bob062122

Maybe this profile is locked against another Firefox installation.

You can try to remove this Install section from profiles.ini and from installs.ini.

[Install308046B0AF4A39CB]
Default=Profiles/bqwrl72n.Bridgett12.26.23
Locked=1

Note that a capitalized '-P' is preferred, but both '-p' and '-P' work.

I changed the targets in both shortcuts to uppercase -P from lowercase -p. The profile manager still appears launching Bridgett's FF.

I then deleted the Install section from profiles.ini and from installs.ini as you suggested. The profile manager continues to open launching her FF.

Also, periodically when opening my Thunderbird it launches email links in Bridgett's FF. If I go to about:profiles, her profile is designated default. Changing default to my profile launches TB links in my FF throughout the session. Opening my FF in a new session sometimes replicates designating her profile as default, but not always.

Behavior still continues. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.
