My laptop is often "borrowed"; access to my "recently bookmarked" items can (occasionally) be inappropriate. I am surprised that there is not a 'easy to access' method to toggle it OFF (!?) I found the below describing how to does this. HOWEVER, I do not find the key (showRecentlyBookmarked).

SUGGESTIONS ?

using: Windows 10 Home 22H2 build 19045.3930

Directly Edit a Preference The menu item switches a hidden preference from true to false, and you can do that directly as follows: (A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful. (B) In the search box above the list, type or paste book and pause while the list is filtered (C) Double-click the browser.bookmarks.showRecentlyBookmarked preference to switch the value from true to false

Your bookmarks would still be accessible and easy to search with "Recent bookmarks" hidden.

Use Private Bookmarks, a separate Firefox profile, a separate Firefox installation like Developer Edition or a separate Windows account.

That's OK; i can always keep bsensitive bookmarks in a less obvious folder. The issue is when they are 'so' easily accessible. Note: in a wa, they kind-of negate private browsing; or at least make it less private. EX: if you bookmark while in private browsing, it will be visible at this non-private browsing window.

A recent list like "recently bookmarked" shows the result of a places database query (i.e. is not a real folder) and is the same as searching bookmarks in the Library or in the sidebar.

correct, and i usually do not leave the sidebar visible. I also do not want "recently book marked" visible. I do not want it visible because: - i do not want it visible - because bookmarks made in PRIVATE browsing are blatantly visible (whereas within the bookmarks menu they can be tucked into a folder, or a sub folder...)

You can use code in userChrome.css to hide these recent lists.

  • /questions/1376350 Devs, please add back browser.bookmarks.showRecentlyBookmarked in about:config

You could simply avoid opening the Bookmarks section in the menu, there is no real need to go there with so many other ways to access bookmarks.

An inquisitive user can still easily: Open the sidebar (Ctrl+B) > Search bookmarks Open the Library (Ctrl+Shift+O) > Bookmarks > Sort by Added date
