My partner and I use thunderbird on a windows 10 laptop. We both have independent email addresses but share the same outgoing server settings apart from those email addresses. My partner is able to send emails but I keep receiving the message that the message cannot be sent, please check outgoing server settings. I have compared both of our outgoing settings and they are identical apart from the independent email addresses. Please advise best course of action. Thank you Gary Wood

I presume you have two smtp servers which differ only in the User Name field (email address), but is each account pointing to the correct server? Select an account in the left pane of Account Settings, then look at Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the right pane. Click Edit SMTP server... to inspect the settings.

Thanks for your response. I had two options for the outgoing server, identical apart from the suffix " default" which I was pointed to. When I chose to ignore the default option everything worked fine! Thanks for your help. Gary Wood
