Does Mozilla plan to fix: user-friendly UI for Firefox profiles & opening Bookmarks Library in new tab?

Several years ago I left Firefox for Google Chrome primarily due to Firefox being unable to do these 2 things:

1) present a user-friendly UI that allows me to effectively interact with Firefox Profiles (e.g., John profile & Mary profile)

2) open the Bookmarks Library in a new tab (instead of a new window)

Google Chrome does both of the above nicely. I recently tried returning to Firefox but the above two items are still incomplete. Does anyone know if Mozilla has plans to fix/address the above two items in the near future?

I don't want to go to the trouble of switching back to Firefox if there is no time horizon for these items being addressed as I rely heavily on the use of profiles and bookmarks (which are burdensome to interact with when they are in a separate window).

(1) A more convenient user interface for profiles

Yes, most users don't bother with the about:profiles page and manually creating desktop shortcuts. A solution is on the way in the next couple of months. I haven't followed all of the developments, but you could check the thread about how it looks in the pre-release Nightly version:

https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/try-out-firefox-profiles-in-nightly/m-p/84223

Note: Your Firefox might be the Extended Support Release of Firefox 128. ESR isn't due for a major update like this one until August/September.

(2) Bookmarks in a tab

You can open the existing library window frame in a tab, but it doesn't use standard HTML/CSS yet so it's still a bit clunky. To get a look, type or paste the following URL into the address bar and press Enter to load it:

chrome://browser/content/places/places.xhtml

(You can bookmark that page for easier reference.)

I haven't researched the time frame for refreshing the layout of that page. I think there might be add-ons to emulate the experience of other browsers.

@jscher2000, thank you for the information on the Profiles work coming this year. Very exciting!

Regarding opening the Bookmarks Library in a tab, I am familiar with the "hack" you detailed but it has no functionality that works for me. I tried this "hack" before abandoning Firefox several years ago.

Does anyone know Mozilla's state of mind about addressing the Bookmarks Library opening in a tab (instead of a new window)? I think it's about time Mozilla address this issue. Are there any open bugs that Mozilla is actively working on to address this issue?
