Dear the-edmeister, Morbus, and cor-el,
Thank you very much for your valuable replies! I really appreciate that.
Btw, could any of you please suggest a way to save recalcitrant videos from the internet?
All the best.
If it's saving embedded flash videos to your computer that you want, I recommend you a very handy and easy to use extension called UnPlug.
Morbus,
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately UnPlug doesn't work on the videos that I want most. (I tested it on another video, though, and it worked very nicely there.)
So I am still left with the problem of how to save videos from the internet that resist being saved.
Any other ideas out there?
I can only suggest trying other "video extracting" extensions. Search them at addons.mozilla.org. Some sites may be impossible to extract the videos from, and you may have to resort to recording them directly from your browser window, using recording software.
Morbus,
Thanks very much for your reply.
I have tried a few Firefox add-ons including Video DownloadHelper, UnPlug, and RealPlayer.
None are working for the videos I want to save.
The Video DownloadHelper icon is gray in color and not animated on the page of the videos I want. I right clicked on the icon, but there doesn't seem to be an option for downloading in this case. Video DownloadHelper seems to be relevant to only specific sites that it lists as "supported sites."
RealPlayer says something like "unable to download."
UnPlug finds no video.
Any other ideas out there?
I'm out of them, I'm sorry. But you may want to look for support with those extensions' authors. They probably know a lot about this stuff.
Morbus (or anyone),
Could you please suggest software for Windows 7 that would make it possible to record videos from the internet?
Thanks.

I don't know of any, F, I'm sorry.
Oh for the good old days we could just see a list of files in the cache. CacheViewer does not seem to work with FF 6. I'm looking at the list of links in about:cache and no idea how to get the .swf youtube file
If possible, I'd prefer to get the file directly from youtube rather than trusting a third party converter that needs an email address or a download program.
Thanks. Dave
FLV files from YouTube aren't normally in the disk cache, so you would still have to download and save the files to disk if you would know the URL of the video file.
You can try the memory cache via the about:cache page if you do not want to use an extension.
