Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). No change - is there a general problem with Google Maps - can you see the same error.

This posting was from me - the name wasn't picked up

I have now checked with other browsers and they do not exhibit the fault so there is definately something seriously wrong with the current version of Firefox that requires urgent attention

WILL SOMEONE IN THE UK PLEASE POST A REPLY AS THIS PROBLEM IS SERIOUSLY HAMPERING MY USE OF THE BROWSER WHERE GOOGLE MAPS ARE INVOLVED - for example go to http://www.budgetplaces.com/eg_offer_list.php?checkin=2010-10-29&checkout=2010-10-31&guests=2&city_id=9

I see no problem with the Google map at that budgetplaces.com page. Nor do I see a problem here - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps = with Firefox 3.6.8.

Since you didn't have a problem in the Firefox SafeMode and you didn't solve that problem when troubleshooting extensions and themes, the next step is to disable your plugins one at a time to see if that problem goes away.

No problems here either with the two pages.

You did clear the cache and Google cookies? You need to clear Google cookies as well if your problem is with Google maps, so try to clear all cookies or try Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode to see if that works.

I have now tried all above suggestions separately and in combination and tried removing other possibly related cookies but all to no avail - I am now using v3.6.8. If it helps all the place markers on the Budget page are shown but not the Google map behind them. I can't seem to get a decent screenshot to attach

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting:Make a new profile]]

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files) See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

I have created a new profile and this seems to have eliminated the maps problem. However, despite following the various sets of instructions to restore my bookmarks and history by accessing the bookmarks backup file in the profile folder, a dialogue box comes up reporting "cannot process the file" so I have not tried any other restorations. Is there no other way of correcting the original profile?
