Multiple websites do not load correctly, the page layout is messed up. This problem only happens in Firefox.

When I visit various websites using Firefox, currently using version 3.6.8, the sites do not load correctly. Many times images are not shown, instead of any theme the page appears as a long list like an index. It happens with a wide variety of websites. This only happens when I am using Firefox. What can I do to correct this problem?
