You can also do this with code in userChrome.css

Add this code to userChrome.css below the @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#personal-bookmarks .toolbarbutton-text { display:none!important; }

Thank you. Tried this and as I am using firefox version 4.0.1, it this doesn't work as it hasn't been updated or graded for version 4, but thank you.

That code should work in all recent Firefox 3, 4 and later versions.

Which method did you use to create userChrome.css ?

Make sure that the file doesn't have a possibly hidden .txt file file extension.

ok, I'm sorry, but I haven't the faintest idea of what u r talking about. You must be a computer guru and I am just a user who barely gets by, but thank you anyway, guess I will just have to use it this way until they improve it or pos sible figure how to uninstall version and go back to 3.6 which had the smart bar, but again thank you for taking the time to try to help me. I really appreciate it.
