When I click on a link, the Facebook logo appears and stays (it reads: f | share).

It is annoying and not at all useful. I do not use Facebook and find it an invasion of privacy.

How do I stop this action?

Thank you, ADH

Chosen solution

Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Thank you, Xircal ! Safe Mode worked! I didn't activate anything while in Safe Mode. I tried clicking on links and I was "facebook-free". Then, after exiting Safe Mode, the dreaded |f | Share | symbol was gone.

Thanks, again, Al
