How do I defend my firefox from an attack on my proxy server?

I have been fighting viruses on my computer. I'm able to lauch Explorer but not firefox. I get the message that my proxy server is refusing firefox access.

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.
