After installing FireFox 17 I can no longer log on to the video web site VUDU I tried the reset and it didn't worrk now what do I do?

I was using Firefox 15 but kept getting messages to update to Firefox 17 so I did and now I cannot log into my account at VUDU.com. Which by the way is the only web site I have this problem with. It never happened with ver. 15 and only started to deny access in the past week. So why is the question of the day. What did you guys screw up with ver 17?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:


  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Thanks for the advice but that did absolutely nothing to fix this problem. Does anyone else have any ideas?

You can remove all stored data from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar) or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove everything like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions from that domain, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from that "forget" unless you have a backup of the affected files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.


Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

This can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that aren't send or otherwise blocked.

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

Nothing mentioned by any of you had worked until I tried the acceleration disabling. It was the only thing that fixed this problem, so I then did an update on my drivers as laid out in the trouble shooting procedures. None of which had any new updates.......so I still have the same problem I'm just now circumventing part of firefox by having the acceleration hardware disabled. It worked, but, at what future cost, what new problems will this solution cause??????

Using hardware acceleration means that Firefox uses the GPU instead of the CPU to do some (image) manipulations and you may not notice any effect in Firefox if you disable hardware acceleration.

Now, this morning, right after this "FIX" worked yesterday I'm back to square one as I cannot log into VUDU.com. I'm not skilled enough to understand all the computer gibberish you guys speak. I'm a 60 yr. old grandpa and my system isn't working correctly. I now have the same problem that I started out with over a week ago. Personally I think this browser just sucks.

Did you try to delete the cookies once again?

Yes I did all of that and still no luck. What is happening is when I click the sign in tag on the VUDU web site a log-in box is supposed to open and it doesn't. If I use internet explorer I don't have this problem so it can't be an accelerator problem as previously thought. As I said initially this problem only started after I installed version 17 and it was not immediate. I initially could log into VUDU after I got version 17 installed, as far as deleting the cookies you suggested none of the file names you gave me resemble the names of the files in whatever folder you told me to open.

That can happen if you block JavaScript.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (MAC)

Nothing any of you has suggested has worked to fix this problem. In an effort to find a solution to this problem I contacted VUDU.com and now I even have them befuddled. They too are working on a solution which they will hopefully find a solution. At this point all I can think is that Firefox makes a lousy product with little or no testing before it's release for use, then just like Microsoft you stumble about trying desperately to fix glitches as they arise. If chrome had a browser that worked with XP I'd get it for sure and be DONE with this inadequate Firefox.
