I am able to change the value from "true" to "false" but it will not maintain the "false" value when Firefox is restarted.

All my plugins and extensions are uptodate. I am using XP Home, also up to date.

Chosen solution

You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

Thanks cor-el... Deleting the prefs file and restarting did the trick. Your help was much appreciated.
