Google search results won't load

Whenever I search something on Google, it hangs with a white screen. However, if I copy paste what I want to search into the box, it loads normally. I think Google's search update is causing the problem. However, if I use Chrome, it works normally.

Which way are you entering your search when you get stuck?

  • Search bar / search box (the one with the icon menu at the left to change search plugins)
  • Address bar
  • Built-in home page search box
  • Google home page

I'm using google.com's search bar.

I assume you use the default setting of Instant Prediction results. It seems that is not working correctly for one reason or another.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove your google.com cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that appears, remove your individual google.com cookies.

Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does that help?

If that doesn't help, the next thing to check would be any extensions that modify how websites work. You can check on this tab:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

(Edited to fix typo)
