All the graphics portions of Firefox got bigger, so that the page no longer fits the screen. The text has not changed perceptibly. Except for the Mozilla Support pages, all the view controls seem to work as usual. Text only zoom works properly, except right here. After trying it, the fix to change all the default text sizes is just the opposite of what I need. I notice distortions/garbling on some screens when I slide over to the right, rather than just viewing what should be there. i.e. my bank statement. Non-trivial! Latest Flash doesn't seem just right, either. Slow, obvious. Is this another case of the world advancing beyond my old OS?

you could try this if you want to keep your system's dpi on a higher level but if the text size in firefox should still be lower as it was handled before the update:

enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named layout.css.devPixelsPerPx. double-click it and change its value to 1.0 (or any other zoom factor that fits your purpose: 1.0 relates to 100%, 1.1 equals 110% and so on; -1.0 is the default value and will adhere to the system settings).

hello, have you set any other dpi value in your operating system than the default one (96dpi)? more information about that is available at http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_use_large_or_small_fonts.mspx

because firefox 22 and upwards will now adhere to the settings done on the system level in order to support high-pixel-density displays...

Thank you for the help! That solved the problem of the page being too large, but . . . now the fonts and icons are too small for my old eyes. More trial and error is in order. I fear my browser has outgrown me.
