Firefox 24 and 25-b always hangs when starting up on mac Osx 10.8.5 despite trying everything suggested on support pages. Reverting to firefox 22 works. Help?

I have tried everything on support yet it keeps crashing. My macbook pro has the same software (10.8.5) yet firefox 25.0 works like a dream. My desk top is part of an office network with 10.8 server.

November 11th 2013. I just attempted to utilize Firefox 25 and this update did not resolve complications with mac users with network homefolders. This is impacting users running OSX 10.5.8, 10.6.8 and 10.8.2+

Our current resolution to users impacted is to roll back them back to version 20. Completely remove FF applications and reinstall version 20.

Summary: Users with local homefolders can successfully utilize FF 23+.

Users with network homefolders will either get red bar errors and/or FF will hang completely. Reinstalling these versions, running in safe mode etc, does not resolve.

Please fix Mozilla. We currently are informing our network homefolder mac users (400+) to utilize Safari or Chrome as their primary browser.

I installed beta v.26 and this allowed me to launch Firefox browser while authenticated as a network homefolder user running OSX10.9. FireFox becomes non responsive when attempting to browse. Our OD server is running OSX10.8.5 with Server app version 2.2.2 (169.3)

The fix is in Firefox 26 Beta 2 which was just released today. You can get Firefox 26.0b2.dmg in your language from http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/latest-beta/mac/

After repairing all the red bar issues symptomatically caused by updating Firefox, our resolution has been to roll back to version 20 and to instruct users with admin rights to not update firefox until IT has blessed newer versions for our OD users and to please use Chrome and Safari as their primary browsers.

I have a similar problem : constant crashes in every version of Firefox since 3.5. I'm using an iMac, running Mac OS 10.9. There is no Firefox folder in my Application Support folder

This question is about Firefox hanging or not responding at startup on Mac OS computers that are part of a network with the home directory on the server. If you have a different problem you should ask a new question.

For crash problems, please include a crash Report ID as explained in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

I'm using an iMac, system 10.9. My problem is that Firefox 25 launches correctly and displays Google (which I've chosen as my start page), but that whenever I go to to a web page, Firefox hangs/freezes. For instance I can go to the BBC site, but once there FF hangs/freezes. Then it won't respond to any clicking or commands, and I have to force-quit.

Firefox has even done this in the Mozilla help pages !

I have found my profile folder, but I don't know what to do with it. Besides, a fix or workaround should not be necessary -it isn't with other browsers. And I've trashed FF more than once, doing a clean reinstall (yes, I've been careful to also trash any associated file, using Appcleaner). Surely every clean reinstall should give me a new profile ? But still I have the problem.

I've tried several other "fixes", all to no avail.

The problem has been there in every version of FF I've tried in the last four years. Version 3.5 worked well but all the subsequent versions have caused this problem. Why ?

As I said, other browsers work, and do so without needing any "fixes". So they work, and so does my computer. The problem is with Firefox, that obviously has a flaw somewhere. I'd love to know what it is.

Thanks for taking the trouble to write. None of the solutions you suggest are of any help. I have posted a new question, as you recommend. I don't think that will help either - I've been reporting my problem for over a week now with no result. And (as I've already said countless times) Firefox is the only browser that has these problems. Others work well, which suggests that there is nothing wrong with them or with my computer - just a bizarre flaw with FF

AliceWyman Thanks for your post. I take your point, and as I say above I've asked a new question, and added the troubleshooting information found in about:support. I can't say I'm optimistic about my chances of finding an answer.But thanks again, anyhow.
