I bought a new Windows 8 PC and installed Firefox. I am currently on version 25. Firefox will randomly stop allowing me to scroll vertically with my mouse at times. When that happens I have to manually click on the scroll bar and drag it to go up and down a website. It works but then it will stop allowing me to scroll with the mouse. Then about thirty seconds to a minute later scroll works again. I know that isn't a long time but it should be working all the time.

Troubleshooting steps taken: Reset Firefox Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox Turned off smooth scrolling and hardware acceleration Started Firefox in safe mode

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Like I said before I tried that. Here's all the things I've done to attempt to fix this issue:

  1. Reset Firefox
  2. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Firefox
  3. Turned off smooth scrolling
  4. Turned off Hardware Acceleration
  5. Started Firefox in Safe Mode
