I followed directions EXACTLY on how to set a new homepage... hasn't worked and I've checked and rechecked that I'm doing it right. I type in the url for the page I want and when it loads, I click on the icon at the immediate LEFT of the nav bar and drag it all the way to the right and drop it on the homepage icon, but nothing happens. So what am I doing wrong? This is a desktop pc with Intel CPU and Windows XP with all 3 service packs. I hope all this works because I'm about ready to ditch FF26 and go back to IE8!

Chosen solution

Try this, go to the page that you want as home page, when the page load go to Tools >> Options >> General, there is a button "Use current page" click on it

or try go to about:config, search for this option "browser.startup.homepage" and doble click on it and in the next box type the url to the page that you want as your home page

Make sure that the Yahoo toolbar isn't causing this issue.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Note that you have the GreatArcadeHits Add-on 1.0.0 extension, considered as malware, installed.

Can't thank you enough! I looked all over and missed it time and again! Guess I got lazy as the solution is so easy to find on IE8. Anyway, you deserve a lot more than I can give you so I'll just let it go at that.

Ciao!
