I get the standard Firefox web page but also get a second web page advertisement for Flash Video Downloader. I use Flash Video Downloader already and my data use is limited monthly so I don't want this page coming up every time I get on the web browser. I've asked the Flash Video folks but they have no suggested solutions. It is not shown in options for home page and I can't find where it is being loaded from.

Hello,

Try restore your startup page(Home Page), go to Tools >> Option >> General, and restore to default or a page that you want.

Or go to 'about:config search for browser.startup.homepage change its value to:

about:home default

about:blank blank page

url a page that you want

I had already tried the first suggestion about Tools, Options, General and restore but it did not get rid of the 2nd tab. I did about:config and browser.startup.homepage and changed about:home default

It did not fix the problem. I wasn't sure what you were saying about:blank blank page but did not find it.

However, now Firefox checks all my add ons for compatibility every time I start it up.

In the option browser.startup.homepage type only about:home without the word default

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

thanks to all who offered suggestions on fixing this problem but nothing got rid of it, even removing and reinstalling firefox. However, going to troubleshooting and resetting firefox then reinstalling the flash video downloader seems to have gotten rid of their advertising page at least for now. again thanks to all.
