Firefox sync is adding space when bookmarking, how do I remove it?

I have firefox synced on a laptop and desktop, both of which I use regularly. I often bookmark pages on one and like the convenience of having them appear on the other for ease of access. The problem I'm having is that bookmarks that I make with one computer appear on the other with one additional space each time I bookmark additional pages. I can't select the space, but I can put bookmarks between the spaces. It's quite a pain, and I would like to learn how to remove them before they add up. Thank you in advance. Firefox v. 28.0, Windows 7.

Chosen solution

You can remove separators in the Library (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks).

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Note that you may have to disable (unlink) Sync temporarily when trying fixes for the places.sqlite file to prevent Sync from interfering.

Does it do it Vice Versa?

In other words, if you bookmark on your Desktop, then go to your laptop, you get the problem you say you are having.

But, what about when you bookmark on your Laptop? How does it show on your desktop?

Yes, it adds space both ways. I've included a screen shot, where my first three folders are separated by the mystery spaces, and the rest of the spacing is normal. It would work wonderfully if I used one computer for work and one for recreation, there would be just the one space separating different computer's bookmarks. But I mix them in for better organization, and it produces another space each time.
