On any of the pages I choose from the website www.depaulireland.org appears a "language selection" google bar and do not understand why. Is this part of the website? It's a service provided by google and haven't downloaded myself. There is no toolbar downloaded among my adds-on or extensions, furthermore no related file appears among the programmes installed in my computer. Could you please help me remove this "language selection" google bar from this website?

Thank you very much in advance, best regards

Chosen solution

That appears to be an intentional feature of the site. It's in the source code of their pages. (Screen shot composite attached.)

As for how to block it...

  • If you never use Google Translate, you could block scripts from the site using the YesScript extension (or NoScript, if you want to block scripts by default). Firefox would never add the element to the page.
  • If you need to use Google Translate now and then, you could simply hide that part of the page. Firefox will draw it, but you won't see it. You could use a custom style rule, or if you use Adblock Plus, you probably can create a custom filter, or if you prefer, you could try something like Remove It Permanently.

Note: for hiding purposes, the crucial information is id="google_translate_element" which for some purposes is written as #google_translate_element depending on the add-on.

You can also disable the Flash plugin on those pages because Google Translate uses it to populate the drop-down list.
