Multiple messages moved between folders have disappeared and didn't restore with 'undo move'
This morning I moved maybe 300 emails from my Inbox (just part of its content) to another folder as I have done on many previous occasions but only 1 message arrived at the destination folder and all the others have disappeared. I tried clicking 'Undo' but nothing happened.

Is it an IMAP or POP3 account? Before you compact your inbox download and use this add-on (its from Kaosmos)
It could be a memory-thing.

Thanks very much for this:
- It's a POP3 account
- I haven't compacted my account manually (and don't tend to do so) but do I need to turn something off to prevent this happening automatically before I fix my problem?
- the 'recover deleted messages' add-on is an xpi file and my Windows Vista says it can't open this
- which folder should I apply it to: the origin or destination folder?

Kaosmos' site gives advice on installing add-ons.
Or see this: http://xenos-email-notes.simplesite.com/416814616
I'd run on both folders.
work offline to prevent any new mails to interrupt. To stop any automatic compact or delete:
- options/ advanced / network & disk space unmark compact all ...
- account settings /"your account" /disk space mark don't delete ...
Open add-ons and under gear-symbol select install add-on from file find your saved .xpi-file and install
After install, if you can right-click on your inbox-folder and there should be an alternative "recover...." It should create a new folder, but it will perhaps also include all your deleted files since last compact.

I've installed and run that add-on, on both folders, but nothing was restored. When I inspected the automatic compact function it was already turned on (so I turned it off) but must presume it had already been at work beforehand and removed these messages.
Do you think that's the most likely explanation or is there anything else I can do?
