After many years I am getting asked for my password which I don't know and I've tried to change it and I can't

I am being asked for my password which, after several years, I have never been asked for. I have no idea what it is. I tried to reset it and then removing it and I am still unable to get mail. the message "sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop-server. rochester.rr.com responded invalid name or password.
