There must be a way to set up gmail that I will get a ding or something when a new email or reply comes into my inbox?? There is a setting in gmail for notifications, but I notice it doesn't do anything. I installed gmail manager 0.6.4.1, by Todd Long. I sent myself an email, and no notification auditory or visual popped up. Besides, I want to be notified even when I'm not on the gmail tab, so the little icon on in the menu bar isn't really helpful even if it did work. I'm still on XP, using firefox 34.0.5. Can someone clarify this??

There's gotta be a way!
