Some of my email addresses are no longer in use. When I open Thunderbird I have to cancel loading the accounts - how can I disable the accounts without deleting the emails already received?

Many thanks

I would create some folders in 'Local Folders'. Then move emails from the account no longer in use to those folders in Local Folders. When you have got all emails you need to keep in Local Folders, you can remove the mail account.

Tools > Account Settings > select mail account you want to delete. click on 'account Actions' Select 'Remove account' click on OK
