Search bar and address bar act like they've been disabled. Help!

Running Firefox 37.0 on Windows XP. Today, the address bar (where you can type in web addresses) and the search bar are totally useless (with no search options available, not a Yahoo or Google in sight) . I've been running Google Chrome all day because I consider this version of Firefox to be crippled. You can type in the search/address boxes provided, but nothing happens.

Could you right-click your Firefox shortcut, choose Properties, and make sure the Compatibility tab does not have any backwards compatibility selections on it?

Do you think it is an add-on or a third party download that you have installed on you're computer? Did you scan for any viruses? Any add-on s that you recently downloaded or programs that have made a sudden change to the search bar?

Another user reported this. You could review this long thread for the suggestions given there: Unable to enter URL in address bar 36.04

Curiously, your Firefox user agent string shows the same peculiarity as that other user:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 4.10; rv:37.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/37.0

Instead of identifying Windows XP as Windows 5.1, it shows Windows 4.10, which I do not think ever existed.

Edit: According to Wikipedia, Windows 4.10 was Windows 98.
