I can't move emails or delete them. They just come back.

If I move emails from my inbox to another folder or delete them they just reappear back in the Inbox again after a few seconds.

It's a Yahoo email account. If I log directly into Yahoo webmail and do it it works fine.

I'm on the verge of uninstalling it and finding something else but I don't really want to. Can anyone help?

Do you compact your folders frequently? You should do that to keep Tbird working properly. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_-_Thunderbird

It's set to automatically compact.

re :It's set to automatically compact.

So do you know when it last compacted all folders? Some people have it set to compact when saving a figure higher then 10 MB, so compacting may not occur as often.

just in case there is any corruption (not saying there is, but not worth the risk..) Backup your Profile or at least the folders containing emails. I'm assuming you have IMAP account. Make sure you synchronise those subscribed folders to get a copy in your Profile folder. Then go into 'offline' mode to stop further activity. Then backup.

Then compact the Inbox :

  • right click on Inbox and select 'Compact'.

Then repair the Inbox index :

  • right click on Inbox and select 'Properties'
  • click on 'Repair folder' button.
  • click on OK

Empty 'Junk' and then compact that folder. Empty 'Deleted' folder and then compact that folder.
